DayZ standalone has had a lot of success over the course of its days and perhaps the biggest testament to this success is that recently it was announced by Bohemia Interactive that the game actually managed to sell upwards of 1.7 million copies and I honestly expect to go even further because of how well the game does what it does.
It’s pretty standard that when a game reaches this level of popularity, the developer needs to keep it fresh for the audience so that people stay hooked onto the game. They do this by adding new content or making improvements to the game engine or even certain balance changes which make sure that everyone has a fair chance at the game. The upcoming update to DayZ Standalone is adding some great new features along with some balance tweaks and even certain changes to the physics of the game.
Fireplaces is one of the key features coming in with the patch, they’ve been expected for quite some time now and it was recently announced by the developer that they’ll be able to bring this feature out in the next update another similar feature coming in with the update is the ability to set objects on fire which is definitely a great addition to a game of this sort.
The main physics update that the update will be bringing in is the addition of the ability to throw objects. You can even hold and charge up the throw if you wish to throw the object with more force. Coupled with this there will also be certain changes to mouse controls which were done according to community feedback so it’s great to know that the developer actually takes time to listen to the community.
There will also be some art changes coming in with the update. Lead artist Chris Torchia stated that they’re working on things like motion captures relating to weapon animations.
Lastly, there’s going to be some balance changes to the weapons. To put these changes in simple words, you’ll be seeing that your weapons will stutter more depending on how heavy they are. An example of this is that if you’re holding a rifle, you’ll take a lot more time to initially fire than you would if you were holding a pistol.
These are definitely some great changes and you can read them in more detail over at the official DayZ Developer page: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/
