Don’t Starve is a rouge-like survival game that from the title itself requires you to attend basic needs like food and other stuff like shelter, light so that you don’t end up starving.
Basically it’s a game where you need to survive in the wilderness for as long as possible and by that when you die or in the games term “starve” you will get experience that can be used to unlock new characters.
Each character has its own way of being played and we will discuss a few things about the characters here.
Getting to know the characters of Don’t Starve
Wilson the Gentleman Scientist
The beard that Wilson grows is not only for show and not to mention he is the only guy capable of growing one but will also serve as a good advantage, like it can protect you against cold during winter and can be shaved to make Meat Effigy. It is a good source of heat for Wilson so when it is winter time he will be free to do a lot of things without the problems of becoming an icicle.
Willow the Firestarter
The first character you can unlock, she has immunity over fire but the downside is that she starts to burst into flames that will cause everything to burn up when she is at low sanity so yes it is a double edged sword.
Now let us talk about her Lighter. The lighter is like an infinite source of fire and it is a good item to have before NIGHT comes because when NIGHT comes.. Well it is scary and without a light source you are as good as dead.
Wolfgang the Strongman
Wolfgang is the second unlockable character of the game. He’s a real tanker if I would describe him, he can do both melee and ranged combat and the same time he’s quite tanky. Now let us talk about his HUNGER problem or so to speak. The more hunger points he gets the better because he will become stronger but of course when it reaches 100 hunger or less he will enter his wimpy form as you can see on the left side part of the picture and yes he will be a wimpy weak man rather than a beefy tank.
Wendy the Bereaved
Now let us talk about her power to summon her dead sister Abigail. The dead twin sister of Abigail who is summoned using Abigail’s Flower and she is a strong ally for Wendy, she will attack anything that either attacks Wendy or who Wendy attacks.
WX-78 the Soulless Automaton
The fourth unlockable character and someone who hates living things and is a real glutton who will eat anything he can even the spoiled and rotten. The downside of this character is that he gets hurt by the RAIN so yes RAIN for him is like poison or fire damage to others.
We are going to talk about his special power called System Overload. He achieves this state by being struck by lightning, which will make him stronger and resistant to cold while also becoming something like a torch that will light up the darkness.
Wickerbottom the Librarian
The fifth character that can be unlocked and a smart old lady who is capable of doing a lot of things like creating Science Machine Recipes without having to build the Science Machine. She is also an insomniac making her unable to sleep in tents, bed rolls and fur rolls.
Now let us talk about her ability in crafting special BOOKS. She has the ability to create magical books using different ingredients and in turn each book has different powers and usage.
Woody the Lumberjack
Now let us talk about his transformation called the Werebeaver. The Werebeaver is achieved by cutting to many trees or during a full moon, the transformation will cause the map to disappear and he will drop all his items and after the transformation he will be weakened and if you have aggressive monster nearby you will have to survive the onslaught.
Wes the Silent
Now let us talk about his Pile o’ Balloons. The Pile o’ Balloons is something he can use anytime that drains 5 sanity per balloon, it can be used in many different ways be it for escaping or by using it to cause a chain reaction that will surely be a sight to see.
Maxwell the Puppet Master
The eighth character to be unlocked and a advance character that is good to use but also has its downside because of his low health. He can do things other characters can’t because of his items and his sanity meter increases by about twenty per minute, which in turn matches the sanity drain of his items.
Now let us talk about his book called the Codex Umbra. He can use this power to summon shadow puppets that will aid him in his travels and will also keep him Insane because by summoning the puppets it reduces the sanity by 55.
I know some might ask why talk about Don’t Starve now because it was first launched 2013. Due to the popularity of the game it was ported to the Playstation 4 one year after being first launched and I might add that doesn’t happen often.
