A game where you plant traps to kill the opposing enemy. Sound familiar?
Basement Crawl is a maze-based action game. A sort of Bomberman meets Twisted metal, were the gameplay and objectives are similar to the classic beloved Bomberman but with the bonus of Twisted metals unique characters, profiles, abilities and customization. However, the interesting concept soon falls short in implementation and ends up as just another bad Bomberman clone. The game is more focused on Multiplayer gameplay so you need to look for friends or fans to play this and to be honest I hear it's far from being a good “community”. You get to choose from 4 different characters that are unique in their own way. One is faster while the other is stronger, well you understand what I mean.
Each character has different stats from one another, so you can choose whomever depending on your playstyle.
Basement Crawl can be played in a few ways:
- The strategic Type : You plan and plant only when needed to.
- The All-Out-Destructive Type : A suicidal player who is just there to kill and have fun.
- The Passive type : Goes with the flow and follows orders.
Another interesting fact about this game is that it doesn’t have the One-Hit-Your-Dead policy like other similar games out there. Here you have actual HP (Health Points) so you will not die from just one mistake.
What makes this game unique from other similar games?
The game is played very differently for starters and there are some features that will really give you the feeling of pulling your hair out of frustration. Kind of like being spawned in an area covered with obstacles or not being able to find a player to play with. The game has had a lot of negative reviews thus far but I think the game just wasn’t ready.
I wrote this article not because I think the game is bad or it is a big failure but rather I think it needed more time to mature and that it was rushed in development.
I mean I like the idea of having a horror theme for this genre but you can’t make a game famous just by doing a different theme of another genre.
The thing I think the game lacked was a “Soul”.
I do hope the developers don’t give up on this.
So yes the game Basement Crawl is a game I would recommend to try out and be one of the guys who will say “This game could be better”.
