An email from Riot was recently sent out randomly to League of Legends players asking them to participate in a survey regarding their experience with League Of Legends. As a surprise to many possibly, all of the questions were related to the One for All game mode which appeared earlier this year for a short time but also hinted towards a derivative of the One for All game mode which would include a majority based selection that would choose a single champion for all 10 players from both sides and the possibility of skin rentals.
The first few questions we related to how we felt about the original One for All game mode and then lead into question about our interest in this new expended One for All game mode, some of which were very specific hints such as "Would we be interested in seeing this new game mode in addition to the return of One for All" or to that effect.
The final remaining half of the questions proposed a new feature which would allow players to rent skins at a discounted price of 90% off the original RP price. It however doesn't mention the length of the rental period which could be anywhere from just that game instance or for as long as a couple of days. We have yet to know the details, however what we do know is they are considering allowing the rented skins to be used by all other team members or even all 10 players during a single game instance. It seems like an idea geared toward producing more micro in-game purchases however there could be back lash from for a number of reason.
The rental price of a new champ for example could be 98RP and if it were only for that one single instance, it probably won't get much adoption. Even at rental period of one week, many would find it hard pressed for players to fork over even 98RP since the different between permanently owning a skin often is off by as little as 10RP if they were purchasing bulk amounts of RP from the store.
The issue of allowing all players to use the same skin in a One for All match seems questionable since often what many have experienced is that players enjoy differentiating themselves from everyone else in a One for All match. This allows champions to play with their favorite skin or to strategically differentiate each other for easier in-game identification.
As for the One for All in which all 10 players are the same champion technically was already a possibility with the One for All game mode, although it didn't happen often. Perhaps leaving it up to chance is probably adequate enough rather than putting in the effort to create a game mode specifically for that functionality.
Can’t Wait For One For All To Come Back
I personally loved the One for All game mode since it created a completely new game dynamic not found in the other modes. Secondly it let the entire team troll with hopefully less backlash. It allowed people to explore metas that they normally would not risk in normal and ranked games such as ADC Soraka or Zillian to name a few examples. However the thing I loved most was that it was a fun time for everyone, win or lose, people didn't take it seriously, it allowed us to break free from the stress and reputation hindering normal and ranked gameplay. It was almost guaranteed that at least one team was going to be laughing the entire time and even if you were losing it was not a big deal. I certainly hope it makes a permanent come back soon.
