So recently our group began exploring new servers and came across [US] L.A Rustmore Oxide (net.connect 126.96.36.199:28015) and things weren't starting out so well. We were excited about being on a server that was highly populated but along with that came the danger and high expectation of constantly dying. The server wasn't fresh and had been wiped over a week ago so people there were already pretty establish so there were plenty of big structures already in place. We started building our base over at the Resource Coast beaches and soon found ourselves constantly being attacked by two major groups on either side of us.
Later in the game, after being constantly killed by one group, a larger group of 4 which included Bam_Bam! Invidious88, and NVM.Kind, dressed in full Kevlar came along and began raiding the base of the group that had been taunting us all game. We were happy to see them take out someone that had bothered us for so long so we approached them and offered our help and they were kind enough to give us tons of gear. They had run out of the materials needed to continue their raid so we said we could help them farm the wood necessary to continue the raid.
They said that they need to return to their base to get more stuff anyhow so we can follow them to their town. It was odd to hear them use the word "Town" so we were expecting a base when we arrived but sure enough it was actually a town. This town was fortified by spike walls spanning an area perhaps as large if not larger than Small Rad Town with my guess of about 8 major buildings from 6 to 10 stories high.
It was amazing since we've never seen this much effort put into a structure. If you've watched The Walking Dead, you've seen the grandeur of the Governor's town in contrast to the stark desolation of everything else before. This is what it felt like to approach this RUST town.
Speaking to the team we interviewed them to learn more about what it took to create this incredible structure. NVM.Kind notes that it was approximately 20 people in total give or take and took approximately 5 days to complete. The back story was that Their group meet up with another group on a previous server called Naked and Afraid and thus started the partnership in constructing the town. They explained that rather than building a single large base they started with smaller bases that were independently managed by smaller groups but they all worked together to created the walls that surround the entirety of the town. People came and go much like tenants and they continued to grow from there.
I also asked if the decay and upkeep was a concern and NVM.Kind said that it was quite a hassle but it was easily done when there was 20 people taking the responsibility of checking the walls and repairing them on a regular basis.
We built it like this because most people are pretty afraid of a big town like this, they've never seen anything like it.
There is no doubt this has been the largest town I've seen yet. I've seen towers created by admin reaching into the skies like the tower of Babylon but rarely do you see a town that was created by the efforts of players, coming together and working towards the benefit and protection of the collective as a whole. I especially appreciated the uniqueness and personality that the town had, each building looking different. Even the details of using ramps as roof tops made it look authentic and real. That kind of commitment is rare and it really made it look like a place you could only hope to be given the chance to be a part of.
Luckily we got these screenshots last night just before the a major RUST update which forced the server to wipe so take a look and see the splendor for yourself.
