In this chapter, we'll talk about our second unraidable base design which was a vast improvement over our first unraidable base design. Having learned quite a bit over the last few weeks the goal was to create a big, secure and cost efficient base that didn't require lots of maintenance, resources or any spike walls to defend.
So only a few days after we had completed our Avalon server base, the server was wiped and once again we had to start all over but at least this time we knew how and what it took to build an unreadable base so once again we set off to create another unraidable base. One thing we learned from our last experience was that, while an unraidable base was secure, it was not an ideal living space, especially if you are farming and need to constantly go up and down by hoping on doors with the off chance you missed and would have to start over again or better yet died from the fall.
This time around we decided that we would build the unraidable first as quickly as possible, and then build a structure around it that would serve as the living space and defensive position from which to defend the base. The idea was to surround the 3x1 unraidable by full height anti-staircase foundation and pillars. Then surround that with another layer of walled hallways with ramps that would be like sleeve encasing the entire unraidable. The hallway and ramps wrapped around the entire base going all the way to the top until the height of it was level with the top of the unraidable. Then we just filled up all the ceiling and started building up full width floors that served as living quarters.
Unraidable baffled many.
The first night of building, I situated my base at Hacker Valley so that I would have plenty of undisturbed resources since most of the other players were focusing one rad town positions. Bigjerms (Jeremy Gonzales), John Lemon (Evan Hoang) and Suppacheese (Alex Martinez) at the same time build another small base at Civilian Coast which allowed them to concentrate on farming zombies for valuable loot. By the end of the first day I had build approximately 7 stories of the unraidable with the top floor still unfinished and open.
Then during one night cycle, the base was approached 5 raiders, Mr. Sun, Mr. Water, Mr. Tree, Mr. Minseo and I forget the last one. We called them the Koreans since they only spoke Korean but knew enough english to say, "Come out, we shoot your door and kill you soon." I knew I was pretty safe and secure so I responded with "You can try but I doubt you will be far" After about 5 minutes of rustling around I realized they had build a stair case on the side of the base, mind you I still had not created anti-staircase structures yet. I was on the 4th floor when I heard the crunch of someone falling through the middle and dying. Soon I heard another. I had to check so I opened the door to peak and sure enough there were 2 backpacks at the bottom of my unraidable. Just then I went up to investigate further and that was when I was shot and killed by one of them at the top of the base. I respawned and as I rushed to the floor where the door was still opened I was once again killed again and respawned at a shack I had built earlier on, just in the mountains near by base.
Fending off 5 raiders by yourself, not bad.
It was at this point that the Koreans team of raiders had realized that everything they jumped into the middle of my base there was no escape. They messaged me to come back and I simply responded that I was going to go farm and they could take as long as they want, I was not worried. When I finally returned one of my walls was gone and two metal doors on either side of the first floor. Fortunately all they got was some chicken and metal ore and little at that and that was at the cost of 5 Explosive charges. I would say that I got the better end of the deal on that one in addition to the many pillars they installed for me which I would have planned on adding anyhow. Sadly after that costly raid, the 5 players never returned to the server, perhaps too defeated and ashamed.
After we completed most of the base, we decided to create a door at the top that seemingly went no where. However from the door view, just below was a sliver of a suspended wall. It would be hard to notice it and otherwise would just look like a suicide drop from the eyes of someone who didn't know our layout. If you dropped down on that thin sliver and turn around you would see the top of the unraidable base sitting inside our outer shell base. And at the top of that unraidable was a large storage box which contained half of our C4. this way if our unraidable was actually raided, we would still have the security of this hidden box, completely invisible from within the unraidable and not even visible from the top of the base or through the walls.
Lastly, we just surround the base with metal foundation and wall to prevent any briefing or future stair structures from being built. In general it was by far the most secure and cost efficient unraidable base so far. The key was to keep the structure small, compact, generally hollow, with the potentially to continue growing upwards easily.
The only challenged was that the final structure was 7x5 which would require a pretty large pieces of level ground to build. We ran into problems with the last foundation in the corner because the ground was too high at that point. Our suggestion is to start the highest point and build foundation 3 in (the width of the base) and 3 down (the beginning of the length of the unraidable structure) this way you can be assured that all other foundations would easily fit being all above the next highest ground height.
- Start with the highest point and start building 3 foundation across and 3 down towards the lowest point in the construction site.
- Continue with the 3x1 undraidable at the end of the base foundation above.
- Surround the unraidable with anti-staircase foundation and pillar. Final size will now be 5x3
- Surround that with another layer of hallways and 2 doorways, to towards the unraidable and one towards the outside. Final size is now 7 x 5.
- Now build up that outer shell with double walls all the way to the top, building ramps or stair cases along the way.
- Cap it off so that the roof the the 7x5 is above the roof of the unraidable.
